Summer is heating up. Stay safe out there! FYI⬇️

I know we all like to joke about Pennsylvania weather acting like it has unresolved issues, but heat like this is something to actually pay attention to. Heat exhaustion is usually the warning stage, and signs can include heavy sweating, dizziness, weakness, headache, nausea, muscle cramps, thirst, clammy skin, or feeling like you suddenly got hit by a truck in the middle of July. If that happens, get into shade or air conditioning, loosen up, sip water, and cool down with wet cloths or a cool shower.

Heat stroke is the one you do not mess around with. If someone is confused, passing out, acting strange, has hot red skin, a very fast pulse, vomiting, or stops making sense, treat it like an emergency and call 911. Move them somewhere cooler right away and start cooling them down with water, ice packs, fans, or whatever safe option you have nearby. Check on kids, older folks, outdoor workers, pets, and that one stubborn neighbor who insists “it’s not that bad” while mowing at 2 p.m.
