My House Needs Fixin

I like to help people when they are buying a house. Sometimes it might be interpreted as "Saving" people. There were odors in this house that a tenant said the landlord didn't want to fix things. Well under the house was fungus and mold growing on the soil and tarpaper someone put down. Notice it is totally mud. Then the next photo gave a clue about the odors. About an 8 foot wide pool of standing water under the bathroom (including toilet) and mud for 20+ feet. Leaking for a while and sort of explains the odors in the house. The young couple thinking of buying this place......... well, this turned out to be more than just painting the kitchen before moving in......

Well some friends may have already heard. My wife of 42 years, Eva Lou, passed away last Wednesday, January 27, 2022 from ALS. She was diagnosed only 18 months ago and it hit her very hard and fast.

There will be a memorial service next Thursday, February 3rd at 4:30 pm. We are members of Arbor Road Church. You older folk remember that it was called First Baptist Church of Lakewood. 5336 E. Arbor Road between Bellflower and Clark. Eva Lou was born and raised there and I have only attended since we were engaged in 1979.

And as many of you know, there is no more sorrow, no more pain in Heaven. Amen to that.

I plan to take a couple of weeks off. My son said we are going surfing together a bit. I will have time to turn up the amps and play the blues a bit. And probably putter around the garage and gardens in a fog for a while.

Have you ever been startled? Just for that split second when I walked around the corner on this estate, I had one of those, "Whooo! I am so glad you had an appointment with the taxidermist." You never know what you will find inspecting 450 to 500 houses a year.

Believe it or not. The "Seller" of this property was so proud that she let Nature take back her yard and pool. Yes there was water in that pool growing another Amazon jungle. But, the family buying it was afraid their kids would fall in through the eel grass and drown and they would never know.

When people talk about termite mud tubes, this is what they mean. The bugs are crawling inside those dirt tunnels to find more wood. When they find wood, the second pictures shows what termites can do.

Spring is here and with it the chirping of little birds. You just don't want them in your attic.

With winter and heavy rains, interior mold is not always a leak. We exhale water v***r and if there is no air movement behind a night stand or bed, mold can grow there. Bathroom wallpaper is notorious for growing mold. And the last photo is an old wood window that wouldn't fully shut. When I opened it, the entire window sill was moldy.

We finally have rain! Check on the roof to be certain all vent pipes are properly sealed to prevent leaks. Water can seep in so protect your home!
