Celebrating today! This week, Governor Polis granted a pardon to my client. This is my first successful pardon application, and comes more than three years after we filed the initial application.
If anyone deserves this relief, it is my client. After being convicted of a low level drug offense in the early 2000s, he turned his life around through rehabilitation, sobriety, hard work, and devotion to his family. I'm so proud of the work he has put in and could not be happier with this result.
Every year around the holidays, we would wait to see if the Governor would consider his application. After more than three years of waiting and continuing to update his application, we finally got the news this week.
It looks like Governor Polis may still be considering additional clemency applications before the end of his term. Pardons can offer meaningful relief that record sealing cannot, including restoration of certain rights lost because of a conviction. In this instance, my client was able to regain all the rights of citizenship, including fi****ms privileges.
Thank you, Governor Polis, for recognizing that people are more than their worst mistake and that the ability to move on from a conviction matters.

The pardons come 3 months after the governor commuted the sentence of former Mesa County clerk Tina Peters.
