Parents are very particular about choosing a sitter to care for their children. The sitter is armed with instructions, cell phone numbers, and perhaps the name of the next-door neighbor. But what would the sitter do if the parents were in a tragic accident and did not return home? What would happen to the children that night? Would child protective services take them into custody?
Make sure you have included a plan for this scenario!

How Do You Look After Your Spouse When You're Gone?

Plan together - - Usually, one spouse takes on the responsibility for retirement planning. Big Mistake!! What if that spouse dies first? It is so important for both spouses to understand retirement planning strategies so if the other spouse dies first, they can take over knowing what has been done.

Revocable living trusts and wills both allow you to name beneficiaries for your property. Beyond that, they are both useful for different purposes. For example, most people use living trusts to avoid probate. But living trusts are more complicated to make, and you can’t use a living trust to name an executor or guardians for your children. A will is needed to do those things. Call us to see what best works for you!

Did you know that up to 65% of Americans don't even have a simple Will? For some, it is a morbid fear that by thinking about death, it will accelerate it! That is kind of like believing you will be involved in an automobile accident just because you purchased auto insurance. For many, it is simply procrastination. Make sure you have the proper documents in place.

The Affordable Care Act complicated the issue of medical care for young adults. The reality is that privacy laws under HIPAA ensure that a parent is NOT entitled to know what kinds of care their child OVER THE AGE OF 18 is getting. Without a child's formal permission, parents cannot even so much as take a glance at the medical records. Even if the young adult is living at home and the parents are paying for the insurance policy that covers them.

Know what you can do to ensure you have the ability to provide medical assistance to your young adult!
