TROOP 13 PARENT MEETING

Welcome Troop 13 Scouts and Parents to another exciting year!

Tomorrow, August 10th at 7pm at Memorial Presbyterian Church, our Troop will have its annual kickoff meeting for the 2023-24 year. The PLC and Committee have organized an exciting outdoor program of camping, activities, events, and fun which we will be sharing details with you. Some of these activities are starting within the next couple of weeks, so you don’t want to miss learning more and registering.

Additionally, we will be covering advancement, service/volunteer, and fund-raising opportunities as well. In order to deliver this program, the Troop has completed its annual planning and budgeting process to balance its planned costs with revenue from dues, fundraising, sponsorship, etc. In addition, BSA National and Gulf Stream Council have also increased their fees for the upcoming year, which has had the effect of our Troop having to increase its dues for the first time in many years.

For 2023-24, the troop is providing 2 options for the payment of dues:
Single payment of $250 , paid by check or cash by September 28th troop meeting; OR
Two-payments of $150 plus 3% convenience fee, paid by credit card on September 30th (Fall Dues) and January 1st (Spring Dues)

✨Shifting✨
It’s been my sincerest honor to serve the community directly as an advocate for my people for the past 9 years. Holding hands, giving hugs, wiping tears, and calming fears of our world’s most vulnerable humans. Representing immigrants in court and defending them against legal injustices has been an experience of many lifetimes.

But I’ve never been afraid to start over. New beginnings have been so frequent for me that it’s become first nature. Ever evolving and shifting, hoping to always leave anywhere with a little more Love and joy than how I found it. And with every new beginning, there is a chapter that closes. Today, after 7 wonderful years, Defensa Law closes.

Now I am humbled to announce that I will be taking my talents into a different arena, working directly for the U.S. government. I know that I am ready and equipped. Exactly where God wants me to be. I’ve prayed for this moment, and it’s here. Salud! Cheers, to new beginnings. Asé

Despues de 7 años aparte, ahora una hija se puede reunir con su mamá aquí en los Estados Undios. Hago este trabajo por estos momentos mágicos. Nos tomó 4 años cumplirlo pero lo hicimos.

🥳 7 years of Defensa Law, LLC 🥳

I can hardly believe it’s bee 7 years since God opened the pathway for me to have my solo practice. It’s been both challenging and rewarding every step of the way. Knowing that my work impacts families and generations, is never lost on me. Salud 🥂 to defending the community with honesty & compassion.

I’m excited for the next phase God is preparing for my path. So, in this season of transition, I am being even more selective with the cases I accept.

Hola mi gente! Me da placer anunciar que ahora puedo llevar sus apelaciones de inmigración a un nivel más alto, con el tribunal del 11 Circuito. Esto quiere decir que podemos seguir manteniendo el gobierno responsable en casos donde los resultados no cuadran con la ley. Seguimos pa’lante!

These are the moments that make all the hard work worth it. This feeling never gets old. Bringing relief to clients who have waited so long for their humanity to be recognized, for justice, for expanded opportunities, THIS is what I do it for. THIS is what gives me the glimpses of hope that this country can live up to what it says it is. My heart rejoices for my client, who’s life will change as a result of having this lawful permission to work.

The Biden administration has been pushing for Haiti’s politicians to agree among themselves on a way forward to allow Haiti to hold elections. However, the administration’s support of the current interim government led by neurosurgeon Ariel Henry, and its expulsion of more than 24,000 Haitians from the U.S. since September back to their homeland, have left it open to criticism.

Haitians continued to flee deadly violence Thursday from warring rival gangs in Port-au-Prince’s largest slum, as food and water became more scarce and a fuel shortage aggravated by the violence continued to fan tensions inside the crisis-wrecked country.

Don’t water yourself down. It’s not your responsibility to give others the ability to handle your fullness; this is an opportunity for them to grow. You, just keeping being magical ✨
