Once Again, Remember, It’s All In HIS Timing
My journey in life has not been my plan, but the LORD’s, and I am so very grateful that HE took control. Since high school, I intentionally took science classes, biology, and chemistry. My plan was to go to medical school. In undergraduate school, I majored in Medical Technology. So how did I end up in law school? The Lord Jesus Christ took over!
I lived with disappointment within myself, knowing the potential that I had to become whatever I desired. I felt like a failure, married with children doing dishes and laundry. Although we had built a beautiful two-story home on two acres of land with a small pond and I did not have to work, I felt unaccomplished.
The Holy Spirit redirected my path. With a still small voice in my heart, HE quietly spoke to me and said, “Go to law school”. I doubted that the Lord had spoken that to me. Just as Jonah did, I too “took a ship to Joppa”. I applied for a job and was hired. Each day on that job was a struggle. However, I worked for one year, then resigned as the Holy Spirit never released from the Call to “defend the Gospel”.
So, 10 years after graduating from high school and graduate school, married with four children, I enrolled in law school. After graduating, the next level of growth began. As a high school and undergraduate student, I had never failed a course. I did not pass the bar exam the first time and was devastated. It took two more years for me to regain my courage to take the exam. When I read an article that President Kennedy’s son, John F Kennedy, Jr took the bar exam three times, I reapplied. However, it wasn’t until I heard the Holy Spirit speak to my heart and ask, “How long are ye slack to go to possess the land, which the LORD God of your fathers hath given you?” (Joshua 18:3), did I take the exam and pass!
I worked in ministry for more than twenty years and dedicated my skills, gifts and talents which the Lord Jesus Christ had given me, not to repay HIM, but in gratitude. Later I opened my own practice, moved to Texas, re-started the Christian Legal Society there and served as President. I became a member of the Alliance Defending Freedom and connected to other legal Christian organizations.
Although my four children are all adults and living abroad with their families, I do not feel like an empty nester. They are all in ministry, serving in leadership. I am genuinely blessed and again waiting to hear HIM speak and direct my steps, ALL IN HIS TIMING!
