What’s the difference between a felony and a misdemeanor in Louisiana?
Louisiana law generally defines a felony as an offense that can be punished by death or imprisonment at hard labor. A misdemeanor is an offense that does not meet that definition.

But the classification of a charge can affect the potential penalties and how the case moves through the criminal justice system.
