“Sing!”

Sing to God, sing praises to His name; extol Him who rides on the clouds, by His name YAH, and rejoice before Him. A father of the fatherless, a defender of widows, is God in His holy habitation. --- PSALM 68:4-5 (NKJV)

These verses reveal both the majesty and the compassion of God. Praise God not only for His power but also for His loving character. God’s greatness and His compassion go together. The God who reigns over heaven is the same God who lovingly cares for the lonely, the vulnerable, and all who place their trust in Him.

READ PSALM 68:1-6

This passage of Scripture sets the tone for the entire psalm. Using ornate language, the God of Israel is described as an unstoppable force. He conquers and overcomes anyone who opposes Him. In contrast, those who seek God's righteousness will celebrate. This transitions into a call for worship and a reminder that God is for the disadvantaged and opposed to those who defy Him. David praised God for His protection and provision. When we see God’s true majesty, our response should be to praise Him. This was a song of faith because many of these benefits had not yet come true in David’s time. It should also be our song of faith. We must continue to trust God because, in time, He will fulfill all His promises.

Today’s text tells us that God is not only mighty enough to rule the universe, but He is also loving enough to care for every person who is lonely, hurting, or in need. He invites us to praise Him, trust Him, and follow His example by showing compassion and justice to others. In other words, these verses remind us that God ‘s strength is always joined with His love. He is never too busy or too exalted to care about the details of our lives. Whether you are grieving, facing uncertainty, feeling rejected, or carrying burdens that no one else understands, God invites you to come to Him. He is your Protector, your Provider, and your faithful Father. As followers of Jesus Christ, we are also called to reflect God’s heart by caring for those in need, standing up for the vulnerable, and showing His love through our actions. “Established My Goings!”

He also brought me up out of a horrible pit, out of the miry clay, and set my feet upon a rock, and established my steps. --- PSALM 40:2 (NKJV)

“The horrible pit” symbolizes a place of hopelessness, spiritual darkness, or crisis. Just as a person would sink and slip further into quicksand or deep mud without any footing, this represents a situation where the psalmist was trapped and powerless to save himself. This verse is a testimony of God’s deliverance. Here, King David describes how God rescued him from a desperate situation. “Established my goings” means God directed and strengthened David’s path, helping him move forward with confidence.

READ PSALM 40:1-10

This passage of Scripture delivers a steady stream of thanksgiving, as David recounts the Lord's deliverance of him from his enemies. He is grateful for giving him a new lease on life. He commits himself to doing the Lord's will and to telling others about how the Lord delivered him from his enemies. When we think of faithfulness, a friend or a spouse may come to mind. Friends who are faithful accept and love us, even when we are unlovable. Faithful people keep their promises, whether of support or made in marriage vows. God’s faithfulness is like human faithfulness, only perfect. His love is absolute, and His promises are irrevocable. He loves us in spite of our constant bent toward sin, and He keeps all the promises He has made us, even when we break our promises to Him. When we realize the impact of God’s righteousness on our lives, we cannot keep it hidden. We want to tell other people what God has done for us. If God’s faithfulness has changed your life, don’t be timid. It is natural to share a good bargain with others or recommend a skillful doctor, so it should also be natural to share what God has done for us.

There are seasons when life feels like a pit—when grief, worry, financial struggles, or uncertainty make us feel trapped. Today’s text encourages us to remember that God specializes in lifting people out of places where they cannot rescue themselves. He does not leave us struck in the mud of our circumstances. Instead, He places us on solid ground and directs our steps. If you feel overwhelmed today, trust that God sees your situation. The same God who lifted David from the pit is able to bring hope, stability, and direction to your life. Wait on Him, trust Him, and keep moving forward one step at a time. “Willful Ignorance!”

My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge. Because you have rejected knowledge, I also will reject you from being priest for Me; Because you have forgotten the law of your God, I also will forget your children. --- HOSEA 4:6 (NKJV)

“My people perish for a lack of knowledge.” This verse warns that willfully ignoring or rejecting God’s teachings leads to spiritual and societal ruin. It is not about a lack of general intelligence, but rather a willful breach of a faithful relationship with God. In this passage, God is speaking through the prophet Hosea to the people of Israel. The “lack of knowledge” refers to a lack of knowing God, His character, His truth, and His commands.

READ HOSEA 4-9

We often blame others if we fear punishment for wrongdoings. In this passage of Scripture, Hosea warned the religious leaders, who were not descendants of Aaron but appointed by Jeroboam, not to blame anyone else: the nation’s sins were largely their fault. Israel’s priest pointed out the people’s sins, but God would not allow them to overlook their own irresponsible actions. Instead of instructing the nation in religion and morality, they had led the way toward idolatry and immorality. In violation of God’s law, Jeroboam made two gold calves and told the people to worship them. The priests’ failure to lead the people in God’s ways placed the most of the blame for Israel’s destruction on them. Knowing that God will not allow us to blame others for our sinfulness should cause us to admit our own sins. We are responsible for our own sinful actions. Beware of the tendency to blame others because it can keep you from feeling the need to repent.

This verse reminds us that spiritual growth does not happen by accident. We must intentionally seek God through prayer, Scripture, and obedience. When we fill our minds with God’s truth, we gain wisdom, direction, and protection from spiritual deception. This warning that was given to Israel needs to be heeded by believers today, for many are being led astray by a false gospel which is taught by deceptive teachers, about another Jesus. Many today are being destroyed for lack of knowledge because they have rejected the truth of the gospel of grace, and have received a doctrine that is not founded on the written Word of God.
