When the temps start climbing, these are some of my favorite nearby spots to cool off, reset, and get a little nature therapy in:
• Big Falls Trail (San Bernardino National Forest) – One of the best waterfall hikes in SoCal, especially after some recent flow. Short, scenic, and super refreshing.
• Tahquitz Canyon Loop (Palm Springs)– A beautiful desert hike leading to a seasonal waterfall, plus a bit of cultural history along the way.
• Murray Canyon Trail (Palm Springs) – Palm oases, creek crossings, and shaded stretches make this a solid escape from the heat.
• Rattlesnake Canyon (Joshua Tree area)– A lesser-known gem with dramatic rock formations and a bit more solitude.
• Heart Rock Trail (San Bernardino National Forest) – Easy hike with a unique heart-shaped pool and small cascade—great for a quick cool-down.
Perfect for a quick day trip when you need to beat the heat without going too far.
