What you need to remember at an accident scene:

1. Take pictures of all vehicles; and if possible, take them before the vehicles are moved.

2. If no police respond, get tag numbers as well as pictures of driver’s license and insurance cards.

3. If the accident is at an intersection, there may be camera footage.

4. Be willing to share driver’s license and insurance information.

5. If eye witnesses are identified, be sure to get their name, address, and phone number. Even if police respond, don’t rely on them to preserve this critical information.

6. Don’t give too much information or offer opinions. Be sure to write down any admissions made by the other driver.

What is Personal Injury Protection Coverage (PIP) and how does it effect you when you are injured in an accident? This type of coverage is "no fault" insurance, so you use it to reimburse your medical bills and wage loss, regardless of who was at fault for the accident. The minimum coverage in Maryland is $2500. You have it on your policy unless you waived the coverage in writing. The beauty of PIP is that the at-fault insurance carrier has to pay the same medical bills and wage loss as if PIP didn't exist. The biggest mistake that you could make is not using your PIP! You have been paying the premium for that specific coverage - so use it!
