Dr. Jane Goodall pioneered chimpanzee scientific study & ecological conservation, passed away during her speaking tour today. Our founding attorneys had the good fortune to meet Dr. Goodall in 2007 and were inspired to volunteer for animal welfare non-profit Board service to imitate her shining example. RIP 🐵🫶

Judge David Gill was a pillar of the San Diego legal community who maintained his dedication to public service well after retirement. He was truly an inspiration and his legacy will live on for generations of attorneys/professionals to emulate. RIP

The Law Library mourns the passing of Judge David M. Gill, who faithfully served on our Board of Trustees for more than 25 years, retiring in 2024.

During his decades of service, Judge Gill was a steady, guiding light. He helped the Law Library navigate enormous changes in the delivery of legal information and technology, as well as a major building renovation and periods of financial strain. With wisdom, patience, and unwavering commitment, he ensured that the Law Library remained a trusted resource for the community.

In recognition of his remarkable contributions, the Law Library honored Judge Gill in 2017 by naming our online public access catalog GILL – Gateway Into the Law Library. This name continues to embody his lifelong dedication to open access and public service.

Judge Gill's legacy will live on in the lives he touched and in the work of the Law Library he so deeply supported. As we continue to provide free access to legal information, we are proud that his name and service remain at the heart of our mission.
