It comes from the Miranda v. Arizona (1966) Supreme Court decision, which established that police must inform suspects of certain constitutional rights before custodial interrogation.

Your Rights During a Traffic Stop

You have the right to:

* Do not resist. Provide all legally required documentation that is requested by law enforcement.

* Decline to answer incriminating questions.

* Refuse consent to a vehicle search (unless officers have legal authority).
