As a parent or supportive relative or custodial guardian in some way of a child enrolled in a public school do you know what CKLA stands for ? Do you know if it applies to your child’s grade level ?
Did you know that it’s no secret and that all you have to do is make a written request and keep a copy of where you ask for any subject area exact curriculum information on everything being taught in a public school to your child by email or on any communication app with the school ? Or ask in person but bring a written request and keep a copy for your records.
As a parent or guardian or even as a tax paying citizen you can ask to view curriculum materials and obtain links and any online information for any grade in public school under state and federal laws concerning obtaining public information.
Sometimes even especially at the end of the school year it might be a good idea to ask for the next year’s curriculum that WILL be used the following year so that you could stream videos or print out worksheets as you have time to help your child prepare for the next school year.
Always make requests in writing and keep copies by either printing them or emailing them to yourself or taking phone text picture screen shots to ensure you have proof you asked for anything concerning your child.

In my experience as a former educator with certified teaching experience in all grades K-12 within my past direct experience teaching English grades 7-12 and Library instruction classes for students K-6 as well as substituting for multiple weeks at the time in elementary grades for other teachers out with medical issues even prior to my certified teaching experience, it is my opinion that especially in those grades where your children may be learning to read and write they may need a lot of help at home.
Teachers in every grade don’t have assistant teachers so it may be very hard sometimes for every child to get individual attention they require.
You may ask for special extra help with anything your child is having problems with in any class at school by requesting a section 504 evaluation under Federal Law entitlement and when any staff member tried to say that you must try getting them help under the Tier program, this is simply not true. If you use this magic number 504 in response to anything your child has consistent difficulty with especially when they are receiving failing grades in any area… put that in writing. It’s like using the words “ I want a lawyer” when being questioned by law enforcement officers lol. STUDENTS AND PARENTS HAVE LEGAL RIGHTS TOO. 😇🙏🏻😳👋
It is my belief always that “ God enables us to do what we are called to do .” If you are “ called “ to raise any child and be responsible for them , please never feel like you “can’t help”your child or should not be informed of every possible thing going on with your child and around your child when they are at school.
All children are important and their feelings and lives should be treated as though they matter by all the adult role models in their lives accordingly. Some people are employed to be responsible for doing just that and taxpayers pay for them to have that privilege.
Sometimes just knowing that YOU as a caregiver want to know what goes on with your child is very important to a child coming from their “ adult in charge of them “ and this makes all the difference in how a child will forever for the rest of their whole life approach thinking what “they can and can’t do “ at school in any grade and in life.
If you search CKLA for your child’s elementary grade I know it pulls up on YouTube a lot of different learning streamable videos because I do that for my grandchildren but you don’t have to research everything yourself to know what helpful information to search for anywhere online. Just ask for every form of available curriculum information about your child’s grade subject areas in writing to your child’s school teachers and / or principal or superintendent or all three in writing simultaneously.
If you are told you can’t have it or told you aren’t entitled or just don’t receive it, you know who to call to help you obtain it. You may have to text or message me to get to talk directly to me. I will return your call as soon as possible and/ or respond by text or message.
It’s very important to follow up with research when any school staff employee answers that you can’t have anything to understand what you are entitled to or how to help your child because often I have been told “No you are not entitled to see that or know that “ trough the years as a parent and as a custodial grandparent when I already knew the answer should have been “Yes” and I knew what applicable law gave me the right to ask and obtain the information I was being denied.
CKLA and online information about this aspect of MS Public School curriculum is not the only information being taught as part of MS Public School Curriculum so when a parent or guardian asks to know all the sources being used for the grade and subjects your child is enrolled in, this is not the only information you should receive or be allowed to view and inspect. Your legal rights have been denied when you are refused to view what you are legally entitled to view and have requested to know and see everything. Don’t wait until a child has failed to ask and don’t be put on the spot for being responsible for knowing and doing everything to help your child but go without asking for this information.
Every student has the right to have someone advocate for their rights.
