Tellico Village’s eight neighborhoods have Native American names. The community’s official neighborhood guide lists Chota, Tanasi, Toqua, Kahite, Coyatee, Mialaquo, Chatuga, and Tommotley. We can appreciate that history without assuming every name has the same origin or assigning an unverified age to it.
