The U.S. Department of State will begin revoking passports of parents who owe a significant amount of child support.
Until recently, only those who applied to renew their passports were subject to revocation of passport privileges by denial of renewal. Under the new policy, parents who owe more than $2,500 and hold a current passport will be subject to revocation.
Phase one of the initiative will focus on those who owe more than $100,000 in past due support. Phase two will transition to revoke passports of those who owe less than $100,000 but more than the $2,500 threshold.
