The Neal Law Firm

The Neal Law Firm The Neal Law Firm has the diversity and experience you need. John Neal has practiced law in Knoxville since 1978. Mr.

Thirty four years in practice, with extensive experience in insurance coverage, personal injury, banking and commercial litigation. He began his practice working for a small firm that specialized in commercial collections, and was then hired to represent the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation in connection with the Butch Bank failures in the early 1980s. His work primarily involved the City and

County Banks of Campbell and Knox County, and United American Bank of Knoxville. Neal represented the FDIC at the closing of the United American Bank of Hamilton County. This work gave him a broad spectrum of experience in both state, Federal, Bankruptcy, and the Sixth Circuit Court of Appeals. Neal represented the FDIC and several banks in many different types of complex litigation, such as the bankruptcies of Jake, C.H. and Sonya Butcher, foreclosure of property associated with the Knoxville World’s Fair, repossession of all equipment at a Kentucky strip mine, and major lien litigation against the Tennessee Valley Authority. When the FDIC’s work in Knoxville was done, Mr. Neal continued to work in banking, became a Panel Bankruptcy Trustee, continued his commercial litigation practice, and also began to work on insurance related matters. The insurance practice eventually diverged into numerous sub specialties. Neal has handled hundreds of defense and insurance coverage matters, and his litigation experience has included civil rights, products liability, professional liability, personal injury, business disputes, intellectual property, banking, and bankruptcy. Neal has also written and lectured on the subjects of foreclosure procedures and insurance coverage.

Have you noticed that CNN now requires you to have a paid subscription to read the news on their website? I reckon they are unaware we can get the same news from ABC, NBC, CBS and BBC for free. There is no way I am going to pay to read their news. If CNN can't survive on its advertising revenue it is time to meet its maker.

Goodness. What an ordeal to vote! If you live in Knoxville and have reached your wit's end with the lines, consider the City/County Building. No line at all. I just walked right in and even chatted with the workers for a few minutes. It is well worth the one dollar you will spend on parking at the Bank of America building.

I think Dolly Parton is the greatest thing since sliced bread. I confess I do not feel so warmly about Walmart. However, they both just donated a stack of money to hurricane relief and I think they both deserve our gratitude.

Most of you know I imported my stepson, Mika, from Russia when he was 7. The pic on the left was on his last day of first grade, 11 years ago. Well, that kid has changed a lot. He is now working as a raft guide on the Ocoee. The pic on the right shows both me and him on our way down the Ocoee earlier this week. I have to give that little boy a lot of credit. He is growing into a responsible, hard working young man who is serious about protecting his passengers. And while I am at it, if you happen to be looking for something do do on these furnace days we are having, I encourage you to call Ocoee Adventure Rafting and sign up for a trip down the river. And be sure to tip your guide!

I just read an article quoting many Republican officials who are "outraged" by the Trump verdict. I think the Republican party would benefit from a little honesty. I have tried a lot of cases. In my experience jurors take their jobs seriously and make a sincere effort to reach a fair conclusion. I have not always agreed with them, but I never had any doubt they did their level best to get the right result. And remember that there were two lawyers on this jury, which means they really understood how the system is supposed to work.

Despite the fact that I have spent the great majority of my life as a Republican, I had no pre-trial assumptions as to guilt or innocence because I had not been educated as to whether Mr. Trump's acts were actually criminal. To say that Mr. Trump could never have gotten a fair trial in New York sidesteps the fact that he only had to get a single juror to vote in his favor and the jury would have been hung. How can you argue that out of 12, who were accepted by both the defense and prosecution, there was not a single fair juror? The fact is that we did not hear the proof. We did not hear the instructions. We will never know what was said in the jury room, but there is plenty of evidence that they understood the gravity of their decision and tried to follow the law. The facts that they asked to re-hear part of the testimony and asked the judge to repeat his instructions demonstrates that they were truly thoughtful. This was not a decision based on political bias. I have always believed in the jury system and I always will. In fact, I think our jury system is sort of a miracle.

There has never been any doubt that Mr. Trump slept with Ms. Daniels and Ms. McDougal. He made the same mistake made by President Clinton. If either of them had any sense he would have just been honest and said "Yes, I had an extramarital relationship and that is all I am ever going to say about it." They could have pointed out that we have had quite a few great presidents who were not faithful to their wives, like Kennedy,Roosevelt and Eisenhower, and it did not affect their effectiveness as Presidents. It was not being unfaithful that sank Mr. Clinton and Mr. Trump. It was lying about it.
