in 1913, Rosa Parks was born in Tuskegee, Alabama. Parks was a civil rights activist who is most famously known for refusing to surrender her seat to a white passenger on a segregated bus in Montgomery, Alabama. Parks' act spurred the Montgomery Bus Boycott that lasted 381 days and ended with a Supreme Court ruling that declared segregation on public transit systems to be unconstitutional. "People always say that I didn't give up my seat because I was tired ... the only tired I was, was tired of giving in."
