Mueller NSBA Leadership Academy is to develop the leadership skills of the participants to allow them to make greater contributions to the legal profession and their community. Welcome to our 2026-27 Leadership Academy class! They spent a day and a half this week at a retreat getting to know each other and developing their leadership skills with Susan A. Koenig. Attorney Liz Klingelhoefer served as a trial mentor last month in Omaha for the 10th Annual Dan Jewell Trial Institute hosted by the Nebraska State Bar Foundation.

The Dan Jewell Trial Institutes are designed for attorneys who aspire to enhance their trial skills. Participants are immersed in real trial scenarios, guided by experienced attorneys, and presided over by Nebraska judges. This hands-on approach allows participants to gain invaluable practical insights into the world of trial law.

Today is the first day of our week long 10th Annual Dan Jewell Trial Institute Retrospective. We wanted to take an extra moment to celebrate 10 years of the education made possible through the Dan and Lorene Jewell Trial Education Fund, a permanent endowment at the Bar Foundation.

The Dan Jewell Trial Institutes are designed for attorneys who aspire to enhance their trial skills. They offer a unique opportunity for attorneys to refine their trial advocacy skills. Throughout these Institutes, participants are immersed in real trial scenarios, guided by experienced attorneys, and presided over by Nebraska judges.

Last week, Attorney Coy Clark attended the ribbon cutting for Kearney's new Early Head Start center! Coy is an executive member of Community Action Partnership of Mid-Nebraska's Board of Directors, which oversees Head Start, Early Head Start, and a host of other support programs in Buffalo County and 26 other counties in southwest and south-central Nebraska.

Congratulation to Community Action Partnership on the endeavor! This will be a wonderful addition for Kearney's youngest citizens.

Last, but certainly not least on our summer associate spotlight, is Randy Rafert! Randy is a rising 3L at the University of Nebraska College of Law. Originally from Gresham, Nebraska, he obtained his undergraduate degree at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln while majoring in Finance and Accounting. Randy will participate in the Weibling Entrepreneurship Clinic in the upcoming semester, where he will assist clients in a variety of transactional legal matters. Randy said he joined Jacobsen Orr this summer because, as a native Nebraskan, working at a firm in Greater Nebraska felt like a natural fit. Additionally, Jacobsen Orr’s wide array of practice areas offered him a great opportunity to continue to explore his interests.

Our third summer associate to show case this summer is Nate Fowles! He is a rising 2L at the University of Nebraska College of Law, where he plans to pursue a concentration in Business Law with a focus on business formation and transactional law. Originally from Ogden, Utah, Nate earned his bachelor's degree in Political Science with an emphasis in International Relations from Weber State University. When asked why he chose to spend his summer at Jacobsen Orr, Nate shared, "I wanted the opportunity to gain experience across a variety of practice areas while also getting to experience and be a part of the growing community of Kearney."
