Had a great weekend supporting Kaufman FFA and enjoying Mabank Volunteer Fire Department’s Chili cookoff. Proceeds for the chili cook-off benefitted Chris Kemp, a former police officer fighting cancer. His story is inspiring.

I had the privilege to work with Officer Cooley. He was a stand-up man and law enforcement officer. I’m very sorry for our community’s loss. My heart goes out to his loved ones and the family he worked with.

It is with deep sadness that we share the passing of City of Kaufman Police Department, Officer Austin Cooley.

Officer Cooley was pronounced deceased on scene this morning, December 8, 2025, following a motor vehicle crash near the intersection of State Highway 34 and County Road 2186, approximately one mile south of Greenville, Texas, while traveling home.

Officer Cooley was not only an outstanding officer within our department, but he was also a caring mentor to new officers, a trusted colleague, and a true friend to so many. Above all, he was a devoted husband and father. His loss is felt deeply by everyone who had the privilege of knowing him and working alongside him.

We ask that you keep his family, friends, and our City of Kaufman Police Department family in your thoughts as we navigate this difficult time.

▪️ END OF WATCH: December 8, 2025 ▪️

Thank you for your service, Officer Austin Cooley. We’ll take it from here. 💙
