🚨 STOP INSTALLING GARAGE DOOR SENSORS LIKE THIS 🚨

If your garage door sensors are mounted up high like this… it’s wrong. No way around it.

While inspecting this home, I came across a garage door safety sensor setup that definitely raises concerns.

These sensors are supposed to be 4”–6” off the ground—not halfway up the wall, not near the ceiling, not wherever was “easy.”

Here’s why this matters:

The garage door is the heaviest moving object in your home. And those little sensors? They are the ONLY thing stopping that door from closing on something—or someone.

When they’re mounted too high:
• They won’t see a small child
• They won’t see your dog or cat
• They won’t stop the door in time

That means the door can come down with full force. No warning. No reversal.

This isn’t a “minor install issue”… it’s a serious safety hazard.

👉 Correct it: sensors should be mounted low (4”–6”), aligned, and unobstructed.

If you see this setup—call it out. Fix it. Don’t ignore it.

Somebody’s kid or pet is depending on it.

Some plugs just can’t handle the heat 🔌🔥

While inspecting this property, I noticed several outlets that looked like this. Burn marks like these are often caused by loose connections, worn receptacles, or overheating.

It might seem minor, but damaged outlets can become a real electrical safety hazard if they’re not addressed.

Even with spray foam insulation, something still didn’t feel right in this attic. It was extremely hot up there during the inspection.

After taking a closer look, I found the issue — an opening to the outside that was allowing heat to pour into the attic space.

Spray foam can be a great insulation option, but only when the attic is properly sealed. Even a small opening can completely change how the space performs and lead to higher energy bills and comfort issues inside the home.

This is exactly why a detailed home inspection matters. Sometimes the problems aren’t obvious until you get up in the attic and start looking around.
