En el año 1996, pasé el verano en Santa Fe, Argentina viviendo con una familia y aprendiendo español. Fue mi segundo viaje a Latinoamérica, ya que había ido a Guatemala el año anterior. Estos dos viajes me cambiaron la vida de una manera muy positiva. Mis amigos del colegio en Argentina compartieron su cultura conmigo con mucha alegria, y mas que todo, me enseñaron su amor por el futbol. Nunca me olvidaré de cuando mi amiga Analia me escribió, palabra por palabra, la letra de la canción de nuestro equipo local en Santa Fe para que yo la memorizara. Ahora Argentina ha elegido a Kansas City como su sede principal durante La Copa Mundial 2026, y Kansas City tiene la oportunidad de compartir su cultura y amor con Argentina. Es un momento bonito y poético para mi!
In 1996, I spent the summer in Santa Fe, Argentina living with a host family and learning Spanish. That was my second trip to Latin America-- my first to Guatemala a year earlier. Those two trips in high school forever changed my life, in all of the best ways! My friends from school in Argentina went above and beyond to share their culture with me, and more than anything, their love for 'futbol'. I will never forget my friend Analia writing down the lyrics to the local team's official song for me so that I could practice cheering. Now Argentina has chosen KC as its World Cup base camp, and our city gets to share a little KC love with Argentina. A beautiful moment to be celebrated!
