Derek grew up along the Platte River and central plains of Nebraska. Here he spent a good deal of his free time chasing pheasants through the extensive CRP fields, falling in love with archery hunting deer, and learning to talk to turkeys. Many trips hunting along the Missouri River and the Loess hills of Missouri during the rifle season

lead Derek to northwest Missouri. Here he graduated with a biology degree from Northwest Missouri State University in Maryville. After meeting his wonderful wife Jenna they settled down in Lee's Summit MO, and have two boys, 6 and 4, and a ball-of-fire 2 year old girl. "I have always had a strong connection to Missouri after all the rifle season openers spent at a cabin in the Hamburg Bend area in the northwest corner. Those days in the deer stand with my father, brothers, and friends, deeply engrained a passion for whitetails and deer hunting. And growing up in Grand Island Nebraska I was fortunate enough to be involved with wildlife and conservation programs when I was young, and develop an appreciation and respect for all wildlife ecosystems. I decided to join Mossy Oak Properties, because they are made up of a group of men and women with the same passion from the top of the organization to the bottom. The Mossy Oak brand has been a huge influencer in wildlife management, outdoor recreation, and now land sales. The first full set of camo I bought when I was learning to bowhunt was a Mossy Oak jacket and bibs!"

Derek with his servant centered demeanor is here to make your experience with Mossy Oak Properties a pleasure. Whether you make your living off the land or live your life on the land, give Derek a call.

✨ Full Circle Moment ✨

Yesterday, while showing a beautiful 30-acre country property, something felt very familiar. A few turns later, I realized why… I was right down the road from the first property I ever sold over 8 years ago.

It wasn’t a big sale—just a 6–7 acre wooded parcel—but it meant the world to that family. And that’s the common thread in every sale I’ve had since: these properties carry stories, memories, and meaning.

Real estate is never just a transaction. It’s about the families who dream, the history being honored, and the new memories waiting to begin.

I’m grateful for every client who has trusted me along the way—and I can’t wait to help many more write their next chapter.

From 1919 to 1944, The Old Mill, owned by Joe Noel, served as a bustling community hub on the south side of Fourth Street at SE Main Street. It was a headquarters for feed and coal, and a marketplace for local corn, grain and other farm products. In 1945, the business was purchased by Walter Green Jr. and Elmer Kessler from the Green Brothers Seed Company of Nashville, Tennessee. Tragically, the mill burned down the very next year.

Ready to sell in Lee's Summit? The market is looking strong!

Here's your latest market update for Lee's Summit, Greenwood, and Lake Winnebago, proving that sellers are in a fantastic position.

By the Numbers

18 New Listings: Homes are still coming to the market! The average list price is $712,000, with a broad range from a $195,000 townhome to a stunning $4 million estate.

15 Homes Under Contract: Buyers are making their move! Homes are going under contract in less than 7 days, with most taking only 3 days.

14 Homes Sold: A total of 14 properties have recently closed, with an average sales price of $532,000. The price range is wide, from $250,000 to $1.65 million.

The Local Market Vibe

The luxury market is thriving, with Lake Winnebago leading the way, and high-end areas like Summit Falls and Napa Valley in Lee's Summit also seeing strong activity. The variety of prices means there’s something for every buyer, but the low days on market show that sellers are truly in the driver's seat.
