A great deal can change in 82 years. Many people, buildings and stories have shaped our city since this photo was taken in 1940.

You'll find a nearly identical viewpoint at 4717 Grand Ave, which has three office suites available for lease.

On April 7, 1878, Kansas City's Union Depot, the largest building west of New York, opened in the West Bottoms.

This depot allowed for the rapid growth of the city, and the population more than doubled over the next two years. This growth meant the station was quickly outgrown, despite expansions. Added that the location was inconvenient for passenger traffic and prone to flooding, 36 years later a new depot, named Union Station, opened and replaced the old Union Depot.

Around the time Kessinger Hunter first began (the late 1800s to the early 1900s), Kansas City housed one of the largest colonies of Irish immigrants in the nation.

These immigrants served the city as hard workers, helping to carve out the citys skyline, cut roads into the limestone bluffs at the edge of the Missouri River, and lay miles of bricks and rails. Their work helped develop the area into a major city in the Midwest.

Kansas City honors these immigrants by hosting one of the largest St. Patrick’s Day parades in the United States.

We love seeing how much Kansas City has changed throughout history. This shot was taken over 15th Street and Grand Avenue in 1930.

In this photo you'll find the following KC landmarks:
• Missouri River
• Municipal Airport (known present-day as Charles B. Wheeler Downtown Airport)
• Second Hannibal Bridge
• Armour-Swift-Burlington Bridge (ASB) Bridge

On this day in 1899, Convention Hall, located at 13th and Central Street, had its grand opening. The Kansas City Star played a vital role in bringing this establishment to Kansas City and attracting important political events, business conferences, and entertainment to the city.

One year later, the hall was burned to the ground and famously rebuilt in only 90 days.
