DCG Law Firm reached a milestone of being in business for 5 years! The Firm has grown into a national practice, representing clients from California to Florida. Having helped many clients and obtaining multiple awards over 1 million dollars, we have not forgotten where we started. A small practice with a dream. Although 5 years may not seem like much, it is truly a blessing to be able to serve others over the course of those 5 years! Lord willing, we will have another 5 years and beyond! Congrats to DCG Law Firm's Unsung Hero!

Sometimes, the person who does the heavy lifting gets lost in the excitement of the achievement. Sometimes, the person who has provided rock-solid support to help others shine gets left in the shadows. Even though they aren’t necessarily seeking the spotlight, it is very important that they feel appreciated for all that they do. Missouri Lawyer’s Media refers to these individuals as unsung heroes and works to acknowledge and recognize these very special people because without them, a lot of us lawyers would be lost.

I’d like to recognize DCG Law Firm’s unsung hero, Terri Greene. She practically runs the office and has helped to achieve great results for DCG Law Firm. She helps evaluate cases, investigate allegations, interview witnesses, draft legal briefs and prepare legal strategy. Since she joined DCG Law Firm, our revenues have increased substantially. HAPPY JUNETEENTH!!!

JUNETEENTH – The Federal Holiday: Juneteenth is a federal holiday that was signed into legislation in 2021 to recognize June 19th as the date that commemorates the announcement of freedom to the more than 250,000 enslaved black people in Texas, a freedom that was made two years prior through the Emancipation Proclamation.

THE HISTORY BEHIND JUNETEENTH: The Emancipation Proclamation, issued by Abraham Lincoln on September 22, 1862, went into effect on January 1, 1863. However, slaves were not set free in the Confederacy until the Union army was able to come in and take over. On June 18, 1865, the Union army arrived in Galveston, Texas. The next day, June 19th it was announced that the slaves in Texas were free by order of the president of the United States.

Bereavement Leave: Know Your Employer's Policies

As we are coming out of Memorial Day weekend, it makes me think about bereavement leave (i.e., time off from work when a family member, relative or friend dies). Unfortunately, this is a topic that many of us have or will have to address at some point.

Did you know that most states do not have federal regulations related to bereavement leave? This includes Missouri and Kansas. This means employers are not required to allow time off or pay you for any time off taken for bereavement. Luckily, a lot of companies provide bereavement leave as a benefit.

It is important to know your company’s stance on bereavement leave so you can be prepared if you are ever in a situation where you need time off for this type of life event. This way you can know whether or not your employer is in violation of their own policy if they punish you for taking time off related to bereavement leave.

It’s so hard to believe that we’ve been in business for 4 years as of today! We are so happy to be able to serve our community through legal counsel, education and representation. In just 4 years, we’ve had jury trials, arbitrations, and settlements, obtaining awards over millions of dollars on behalf of our clients.
