The passage of a bipartisan law is expected to be announced today that would allow a pathway to legal immigration status for undocumented immigrants married to U.S. citizens and who have been in the United States for ten years or longer. A lot of you guys that follow my page here are also my friends. Several of you have even met my father. Yesterday, he was on foot and was struck by a pickup truck. He was taken to the hospital via ambulance and as I mentioned on my personal page, you know that means it’s serious because he hates being in an ambulance almost as much as he hates being in a hospital. He’s out now and is pretty banged up. He lives alone so I’m going to be taking time to help him with his convalescence. My office will still be staffed, just know that I may use zoom for court a bit more or I may arrange for another attorney to cover some cases here and there. Thank you all for keeping him in your thoughts and prayers.

Please be patient with us as we just moved! We’re now located in the PNC building on Court Street in Kankakee. The move puts us a lot closer to the courthouse and we couldn’t be happier about it. My new assistant, Morty is helping unpack everything.

Unfortunately, I found out this morning that last night two of my assistants (and one of their toddlers) were involved in a head on collision. One was transported to Chicago where she is heading into surgery as I type this. I had toyed with the idea of closing next week as the Kankakee tradition was that law offices close for the week of Independence Day and the week between Christmas and New Year’s Day. We will definitely be closed next week.

Please keep them in your thoughts and prayers.

I’d like to thank everyone who sent me a message or called to check up on me. As a lot of you may know, I was about 60 feet away from an active shooter situation outside the Kankakee County courthouse. Between this and a very unfortunate medical diagnosis of an immediate family member, I plan on being away from the office a bit more.

It’s no secret that attorneys have a soul crushing amount of stress thrust upon us because we take your problems and we make them ours. Please be patient with me and my staff as I take some time here and there to take care of my mental health.

Today in the Circuit Court of Kankakee County, I was fortunate to have Judge Bradshaw-Elliott rule my client not guilty of Aggravated Discharge of a Firearm, a class X felony that has a penalty of mandatory prison time. A great weight has been lifted from this young man’s shoulders.
