JONESBORO, Ark. (KAIT/Edited News Release) - In a heartfelt ceremony on Tuesday, July 2, Mayor Harold Copenhaver presented Danny Honnoll with a key to the city of Jonesboro.

This honor recognizes Honnoll’s lifelong dedication and exceptional contributions to the community.

A 1968 graduate of Nettleton High School, Danny Honnoll began his journey working at his father Jimmy Williams’ feed store in Nettleton.

His strong work ethic and commitment to the community were evident from a young age.

Honnoll retired from Southwestern Bell after 30 years of dedicated service and has since become a cornerstone of Jonesboro’s civic life.

Mayor Copenhaver emphasized the significance of this award, stating, “Danny Honnoll embodies the spirit of Jonesboro through his tireless dedication, community service, and leadership. His contributions have enriched our city, and it is fitting that we honor him with a key to the city.”

Honnoll’s involvement in the community extends beyond his professional career. He has served on the City Water & Light (CW&L) board and Landfill Bank Committee for over 25 years, showcasing his steadfast commitment to his community.

As an author, his book, “The Battle of Jonesboro, August 2, 1862, Jonesboro, Craighead County, Arkansas,” highlights his dedication to preserving the city’s history.

His active membership in various organizations, including the Elks Lodge, the Craighead County Historical Society where he serves as President, and the Craighead County Veterans Monument Foundation, underscores his multifaceted contributions.

Additionally, Honnoll has played the role of Santa Claus for over 25 years, bringing joy to countless children and families.

A pillar of support for veterans, Honnoll has been instrumental in organizing the Veterans Day parade and Memorial Day ceremonies for decades.

His unwavering dedication to honoring those who have served our country is a testament to his patriotism and community spirit.

Danny Honnoll’s family, including his wife Teressa, daughters Lisa and Leah, and grandchildren Will, Emily, and Claire, attended the ceremony, witnessing this prestigious recognition of his lifelong service.

Mayor Copenhaver concluded, “Danny’s unwavering dedication to Jonesboro and his profound impact on our community make him a cherished member of our great city. It is a privilege to honor him today with the key to the city.”

President Joe Biden knocked one over the second base fence last night, delivering a claim for a second term in his State of the Union speech , tearing into ‘my predecessor” --- Donald Trump --- for espousing “resentment, revenge and retribution” and for jeopardizing freedom at home and abroad. It was a strong American speech, patriotic and optimistic, reminiscent of FDR and Ronald Reagan.

Reveling in the political moment, Biden fired multiple broadsides at “my predecessor” without ever mentioning Trump by name — 13 times in all, sharpening the contrast, accusing Trump for bowing down to Putin as an appeaser and for threatening NATO. Biden said as he appealed for Congress to support Ukraine’s efforts to defend itself against Russia’s two-year-old invasion. “History is watching.”

Biden pointed out the 4 million new jobs created in the past 3 years, 450,000 last month alone, while hammering the Republican on Trump’s $2 trillion in tax break to billionaires.
Biden went off-script to take a dig at Republicans who voted against such his policies demonstrated by highway expansions, bridge renovations and microchip factory groundbreakings, around the Nation but nonetheless take credit for them back home:

“If any of you don’t want that money in your districts,” Biden said, “just let me know.”

Stunned by Biden's energetic, aggressive tone, Republicans just looked at their shoes.

The president linked Trump’s praise for those who overran the Capitol in an attempt to overturn the 2020 election with antidemocratic threats abroad. “Freedom and democracy are under attack both at home and overseas at the very same time,”
Biden directly referenced the Jan. 6, 2021, insurrection at the Capitol, calling out those who have played it down.

“My predecessor — and some of you here — seek to bury the truth about Jan. 6 — I will not do that. This is a moment to speak the truth and to bury the lies. Here’s a simple truth You can’t love your country only when you win.”

On the economy, Biden pointed out the 4 million new jobs created in the past 3 years, 450,000 last month alone, while hammering the Republican on Trump’s $2 trillion in tax break to billionaires.
Biden insisted the state of the Union was “strong and getting stronger.”

Biden's peroration looked to the future:
“My lifetime has taught me to embrace freedom and democracy. A future based on the core values that have defined America: honesty, decency, dignity, equality. To respect everyone. To give everyone a fair shot. To give hate no safe harbor. Now some other people my age see a different story: an American story of resentment, revenge, and retribution. That’s not me.”

Hi Folks,

Well, the DC Court of Appeals denied Trump's specious claim the he enjoyed some kind of blanket immunity.

He has until Monday to file a petition for certiorari to the Supreme Court which, I think, will find some way not to take this case and send the election interference case back to Judge Chutkin to set for trial.

Justice will likely prevail in this troubled Nation after all.

Hi Folks,

I just received the very sad news that my law school classmate and friend, Justice Robin Wynne, of the Arkansas Supreme Court has passed at the age of 70. I was blessed to have all three Wynne brothers as law school classmates and friends at Fayetteville in the mid-70s.
They're a fine family from Fordyce, with two generations of lawyers preceding them, and Robin's contributions to Arkansas jurisprudence will be missed.

May our Gracious God receive his Blessed soul.
