The Federal Reserve Open Market Committee (the Fed) just took an unusual step to try to restore calm and provide market stimulus among Coronavirus-spurred volatility—they cut policy rates by a half-point.

So, what does the move mean for you and your existing or planned mortgage?

The Fed rate cut does not directly impact mortgages. However- mortgage rates have already dropped to near-record lows in reaction to stock market losses. We are headed into uncharted territory, but rates probably won’t stay this low for long.

With rates currently hovering at these rates, it's a great time to take advantage. Locking in a low rate to purchase or refinance has the potential to pay dividends for decades to come. Essentially, you'll be establishing a potentially lower cost of housing for as long as you keep your loan.
