John Ruth was honored on June 29, 2022 as a recipient of the 2022 ICON Award from Missouri Lawyers Media during a luncheon held at the Missouri Athletic Club in St. Louis, Missouri. The ICON award is given to attorneys who are at least 60 years of age who have demonstrated notable, sustained success and strong leadership within and outside the field of law. An honoree must have held a senior position with significant decision making authority within his law firm. Ruth is among only 30 other recipients from across Missouri to receive this year’s recognition.

“As a founding member of Newman, Comley & Ruth, John has demonstrated tremendous dedication to the law firm and its clients, the Jefferson City community as well as the Missouri Bar and Cole County Bar Association” said Josh Hill, current president of Newman, Comley & Ruth. “All of us at Newman, Comley & Ruth are pleased to see John’s quiet efforts recognized.” During his 39 year legal career, John has served on the Missouri Bar Board of Governors, the Missouri Bar Board of Trustees, a representative to the Young Lawyers Section Council of the Missouri Bar, a Missouri delegate to the American Bar Association House of Delegates, past president of the Cole County Bar Association and was selected as a fellow to the Missouri Bar Foundation. Within the Jefferson City community he served on the Jefferson City Board of Education, the Cole County Planning Commission, Cole County Law Enforcement Advisory Committee, provided adult leadership in the Boy Scouts of America and volunteered many years as a coach of various youth sports.

Kathy Hammond, paralegal, retired on December 31, 2021. Kathy worked at Newman, Comley & Ruth P.C. since it was formed in April 1993, and she worked for retired attorney, Steve Newman, for several years before that. A luncheon was held to thank Kathy for her over 30 years of dedicated service to our attorneys, clients, and the legal profession. Kathy will be greatly missed, but we congratulate her on her retirement and wish her all the best in the years to come!
