We recently met with a young pregnant mama who was struggling with what to do. After deep discussions with her family, she decided she wanted to place her baby for adoption. She had researched adoption which ultimately led her to us.

When our team met with her, the first thing she said was she wanted a closed adoption. With this mama being so young, we discussed all types of adoption and different scenarios with her about communication and openness with the adoptive family. By practice, we choose to only work with families that are open to open adoption. We discussed this with Mama K; that we always wanted the option for communication to be on the table should she choose so in the future. We presented Mama K with families and she instantly fell in love with the B Family. She felt that they looked so warm and loving. 😊❤️

After discussions with the B Family, they kept saying that they are open to whatever Mama K wanted for communication. We reassured Mama K that she has the option for communication and we started discussing a “hospital plan”. She surprised us all and asked if Adoptive Mama A could be in the delivery room!! 😱 We were so excited to call Adoptive Mama A with this news. Our hearts truly love the openness and bonds our families have been able to create with their birth mamas.

Fast forward to that phone call with Adoptive Mama A, it went a little something like this...”Hey, so Mama K asked if you would be in the delivery room so you can hold Baby as soon as he’s born”....the other end of the line was silent and then all we heard through Adoptive Mama A’s sobs was “yes, I would be honored” 😭😭 Within 30 minutes of that phone call, we received a text from Adoptive Mama A that said, “I’m driving down tonight, I do not want to miss this opportunity”. At this time, we still had no idea when Mama K would deliver.

Mama K ended up being admitted for an induction in the early morning hours of January 28th. For the next 48 hours, Adoptive Mama A, Mama K and Adoptive Mama K’s mother would have a hospital “Slumber party” waiting for the arrival of Baby Boy.

Baby E made his grand appearance January 29 at 4:33am weighing 7lbs 4oz and 21 inches long!

This sweet boy is loved so much already by so many people. It completely melted our hearts today and had everyone crying just watching the amount of love that filled one small hospital room, even the nurses.

A year ago today I started my day like any other. Wake, shower, coffee, dress, drive to work. I did all that not knowing faith, hope and the universe had other plans for me. As I rummaged around my office preparing for an early meeting my cell phone began to ring. The caller ID read that it was the adoption coordinator Jamie from the lawyer I had been working with. I took a deep breath remembering that any other calls like this broke off a tiny piece of my heart no matter how gentle she was with me.
I have no idea what Jamie first said to me since I continued to move around my office half listening for the disappointment. I know exactly the placement of my body and the numbness that flooded through me when I heard Jamie say, “ She picked you.” Tears - big, fat, beautiful tears- streamed down my face.

Up until that day surreal moments usually came with pain. I now know what it feels on the other end and this date will forever be etched in my memory. It’s the day the wish that began growing in my heart finally came true. The day Maeve, my sweet love, joined our family and I joined hers. Life since then has been unexpected, exhausting, thrilling, scary, exciting and humbling. It’s going too fast so I’m trying to be in moments as much as possible.

None of this would have amounted to much without the love and support of my family and friends. The women at and Lauren Kingry- Jamie, Krista and Lauren- took my wish, my dream and helped make it a reality. For your dedication, care and kindness you forever will have a special place in my heart. To Maeve’s birth mother, who so bravely sacrificed for her child, found strength when many would have given up and opened her heart to a stranger in the most remarkable way, we love you. We are proud of you. We are lucky to call you family and you are always in our hearts.
