What Should You Do After a Car Accident in Florida?
If you or someone you know is involved in a car accident, here are a few important steps to take:
✅ Call 911 and report the accident.
✅ Seek medical attention as soon as possible—even if you don’t think you’re seriously injured. Some injuries may not show symptoms immediately. In Florida, seeking medical evaluation within 14 days of the accident may be necessary to preserve eligibility for certain PIP (Personal Injury Protection) benefits.
✅ Take photos of the vehicles, the accident scene, visible injuries, road conditions, and any property damage.
✅ Exchange contact, driver’s license, vehicle registration, and insurance information with the other driver.
✅ Get the names and contact information of any witnesses.
✅ Avoid discussing fault or making statements about who caused the accident.
✅ If you have questions about your legal rights or the insurance process, consider speaking with a personal injury attorney before providing a recorded statement to the other driver’s insurance company or accepting a settlement offer.
If you have questions after an accident, we are always happy to help. We offer free consultations, and in most cases we can speak with you the same day. Even if you’re unsure whether you have a case, we are happy to answer your questions and help you understand your options.
