Most people treat their rate like a speed limit. Fixed, non-negotiable, just deal with it.

It’s not. Lenders compete for your business the same way anyone selling something does, they just don’t advertise it that way. Origination fees, discount points, closing cost credits, even the rate itself, all of it has more give than the paperwork lets on.

The buyers who ask “is this your best offer” walk away with meaningfully lower payments than the ones who just say thank you and sign. Not because they’re better negotiators, but because they knew there was room to ask in the first place.
