I am so honored to receive the 2026 Janice M. Holder Access to Justice Award.

A special thank you to Ashley Hendrix Holliday, and Cathy Bulle Clayton and Kendra Mansur for nominating me and writing letters in support and to West Tennessee Legal Services for giving me so many opportunities over the years to serve, teach, and hopefully make a difference.

Pro bono work is a good reminder that something that may take just a little of our time as lawyers can mean absolutely everything to someone who needs help.

And I have to give some credit to my dad, who set the example long before me. I’m pretty sure serving on the WTLS board for 30+ years qualifies him for at least partial ownership of this award.

Very grateful for this honor and even more grateful for the people who do this work every day.

🎉 Congratulations to Sara Barnett! 🎉

We are proud to celebrate our own board member, Sara Barnett, partner with Spragins, Barnett & Cobb, on being named the 2026 recipient of the Janice M. Holder Access to Justice Award!

This award honors Janice Holder, the first female Chief Justice of the Tennessee Supreme Court, whose leadership was instrumental in creating Tennessee's Access to Justice Commission. It's given to individuals who exemplify a deep commitment to expanding access to justice — and Sara embodies that spirit in every way.

Beyond her direct pro bono service, Sara has strengthened our entire access to justice community by teaching CLE programs for staff and volunteers, sharing her expertise to help others serve Tennesseans more effectively. Her leadership extends even further through her service on both the West Tennessee Legal Services Board of Directors and the Tennessee Supreme Court's Access to Justice Commission.

Sara, thank you for your tireless dedication to ensuring that all Tennesseans — regardless of income — have access to the legal help they need. This recognition is so well deserved! 👏

Had to jump on the trend…

My hope for you is that your biggest stress is choosing your next vacation, not wondering whether your family would know what to do in an emergency.

That’s what estate planning is really about: peace of mind while you’re living and a lasting gift to the people you love.

Get your ducks in a row. 🦆🦆💜💜

I get asked often: “When is the will going to be read to the family?” This happens in the movies and on television, but in real life it’s a bit different. Check out my latest blog post!

Movies and television have given many people the wrong idea about what happens after someone dies. You may picture the family gathered in a lawyer’s office while the attorney dramatically opens an envelope and reads the will aloud. One family member inherits the house. Another receives the family b...

BREAKING: A black bear has been spotted in Jackson.

Look, I’m not saying it’s time to panic… but if a bear wandering through West Tennessee reminds you that life can be a little unpredictable, it’s probably a good time to make sure your medical power of attorney is in place.

Hopefully, the closest you’ll ever get to the bear is this picture. But if life throws you something unexpected (bear or otherwise), having the right legal documents can make all the difference.

Stay safe, keep your distance if you see our furry visitor, and if your estate plan has been sitting on your to-do list… consider this your sign.

Getting Your Ducks in a Row at the Alzheimer’s Tennessee Memory Walk 🦆💜 Alzheimer's Tennessee

What a wonderful morning at the Alzheimer’s Tennessee Memory Walk at Jackson State Community College.

Our team was honored to sponsor a hydration station for participants and support an organization that does so much for individuals and families affected by Alzheimer’s disease and dementia.

The purple ducks were a hit, the shaved ice helped beat the heat, and we enjoyed visiting with so many members of our community throughout the morning.

As an estate planning attorney, I regularly see how important it is for families to have powers of attorney, advance directives, and other planning documents in place before a crisis occurs. While no legal document can make a difficult diagnosis easy, having a plan can provide guidance, reduce stress, and help loved ones focus on what matters most.

Thank you to Alzheimer’s Tennessee, the volunteers, the walkers, and everyone who stopped by to say hello. We were proud to support such an important cause.

And yes… plenty of ducks found new homes today. 🦆💜

In estate planning, we talk a lot about getting your ducks in a row.

Behind the scenes, Trevor and Jill are the reason mine actually stay there.

Thank you both for everything you do to keep things running smoothly and our clients taken care of every day. I appreciate you more than you know. Happy Administrative Professional's Day!
