Getting Your Ducks in a Row at the Alzheimer’s Tennessee Memory Walk 🦆💜 Alzheimer's Tennessee

What a wonderful morning at the Alzheimer’s Tennessee Memory Walk at Jackson State Community College.

Our team was honored to sponsor a hydration station for participants and support an organization that does so much for individuals and families affected by Alzheimer’s disease and dementia.

The purple ducks were a hit, the shaved ice helped beat the heat, and we enjoyed visiting with so many members of our community throughout the morning.

As an estate planning attorney, I regularly see how important it is for families to have powers of attorney, advance directives, and other planning documents in place before a crisis occurs. While no legal document can make a difficult diagnosis easy, having a plan can provide guidance, reduce stress, and help loved ones focus on what matters most.

Thank you to Alzheimer’s Tennessee, the volunteers, the walkers, and everyone who stopped by to say hello. We were proud to support such an important cause.

And yes… plenty of ducks found new homes today. 🦆💜

In estate planning, we talk a lot about getting your ducks in a row.

Behind the scenes, Trevor and Jill are the reason mine actually stay there.

Thank you both for everything you do to keep things running smoothly and our clients taken care of every day. I appreciate you more than you know. Happy Administrative Professional's Day!

🎉 Revisiting a Classic: The Tofurky Trap

Last year I wrote The Tofurky Trap: Why DIY Estate Planning Won’t Cut It — and today feels like the perfect day to bring it back… mostly because I currently have an actual Tofurky roasting in my oven.

Yes, I know. Trust me — some things are better left to the professionals. 😉
Estate planning? Definitely one of them.
Tofurky? We’ll find out in about an hour.

In the meantime, here’s the article that started it all 👇

DIY estate planning might seem easy, but it's like Tofurkey—great as a substitute, but not the real deal your family deserves.

In Tennessee, choosing godparents doesn’t guarantee they’ll be appointed if something happens to you. Legal guardianship must be in writing, and a trust can help protect both your children and your assets.

Proud big sister moment! This morning, I had the privilege of watching my brother (and our firm’s associate), Chas, argue before the Sixth Circuit Court of Appeals in Cincinnati. I’m incredibly proud of the hard work and preparation that went into this moment.

While my own practice focuses on Estate Planning, Probate, and Elder Law, getting to share moments like this with my brother and our dad is one of the unique joys of working together at the same firm.
