Twenty years after a study by the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services found that at least 4.1 hours per resident day of direct care nursing staff time are needed just to prevent poor outcomes, state staffing requirements, with a few exceptions, are nowhere near that recommended level. Despite what is known about the relationship between staffing levels and quality care, no federal staffing standard exists, and staffing standards in almost every state remain severely low.
Covid did not create the Nursing Home Crisis! Owners and operators have deliberately understaffed for years, putting profits over people. When will Federal and State law makers step up and protect our loved ones!

Understaffed facilities cannot provide all necessary care to all of the residents. When facility owners choose to not pay staff living wages or provide benefits and safe working conditions, they will not be able to adequately staff the facility and the residents will be at risk. The owners reap large profits, while the staff and residents suffer. Nursing Home owners must be held accountable when they place profits over people!

Despite prior violations cited by the Department of Health, this facility continues to operate in a manner that deprives those who reside and work there an environment that is safe. The federal and state government must increase sanctions to hold facilities accountable and keep the residents safe. Kudos to the staff person who reported the dangerously hot conditions.
