**IP Chamber Launches : Island Park Stimulus Program**
Island Park, NY, June 10, 2020 — The Island Park Chamber of Commerce (IPCC) is awarding approximately $3,000.00 in the form of $50.00 gift certificates and other grants, to IP residents, redeemable at over 25 Island Park Businesses. The IPCC's Board and Officers created this program to inject funds into the Island Park Community and stimulate business. The program is funded entirely by the IPCC's treasury and is only possible due to the overwhelming support the IPCC has received over the years from its Members and it’s great Community.

The IPCC will host a Trivia Contest on its page. The questions will be posted from June 15 - 19, 2020, with different questions posted each day. In order to participate in the Contest and to win a prize, you MUST reside in Island Park (11558) and "LIKE" the IPCC page. A full list of Contest rules will be posted on the IPCC page in the next few days.

NYS Assembly Bill A7786. The NYS Senate's version of this Bill (S5122) passed unanimously.

From my quick review of the Bill it appears, if ratified into Law, it will prevent LIPA from collecting from municipalities and school districts any refund of property taxes it paid in a prior tax year.

It also provides that LIPA shall abandon all lawsuits and proceedings seeking a reassessment, for prior tax years, upon this Bill becoming law and taking effect. This Bill will become Law when it is voted on and passed and will take effect on the 13th day after its passed.

Even though this Bill, if passed, ends LIPA's claims to get reimbursed for overpaid "back" taxes, any resulting lower tax assessment granted to LIPA for future tax years from the time they filed, will be shifted to the municipalities and school districts.

The extinguishing of "back" tax claims would be a huge savings to the municipalities and school districts, but the future decreased assessments, if estimations are correct, will result in much higher taxes, enough to devastate the taxpayers and school districts in Island Park and other affected municipalities.

Also, hopefully this Bill and the one passed by the NYS Senate, will be ratified into Law before this Legislative session ends in approximately a month's time. Surely, any delay in the Bill's passing would not be advantageous to the municipalities and could only benefit LIPA.

Relates to the liability of a municipality or governmental subdivision for the refund of property taxes to the Long Island power authority.

Bring the kids in their costumes to the local Island Park Businesses on Saturday, October 27, 2018 from 1 to 6 PM and they will receive treats as part of the Island Park Chamber of Commerce's Annual Trick or Treat for Business Event. Every year since Super Storm Sandy the Island Park Businesses in conjunction with the Island Park Chamber of Commerce provide an additional day of trick or treating for children to make up for the 2012 Halloween that never was. Look for the flyer displayed at participating businesses. Thank you!
