Such an honor to have voted in the primary election the other day. Means so much because those before me sacrificed so much for me to be able to participate, to be counted, to have my voice heard. In a very real sense, it boils down to giving an input to influence an outcome.
And yet so many of us are choosing not to participate and in some cases refusing to give our input to influence important outcomes…EVERYDAY. In case you don’t know already, I’m no longer talking about voting in elections but I’m talking about a civic duty that is just as important, and perhaps to those who’s skin has been kissed by the sun, like mine…practically speaking, even more important.
I’m talking about serving as jurors in courthouses all across America. I’m talking about how so many times, we refuse to show up and participate and serve and thereby we forfeit the right to provide our input to influence important life outcomes. I often wonder how many people sit behind bars now because we refused to show up and serve as jurors on their trials?
It’s hard to complain about bad outcomes for our mothers, fathers, brothers, sisters, cousins and friends when we refuse to give our input. Who knows, our voice, our unique life experiences and perspective, could be the difference between our loved ones standing in some court, before some jury and hearing NOT GUILTY as opposed to GUILTY.
You never know. I said all of that to say this, the next time the little card arrives in the mail, asking for you to serve as a juror, show up, give your input to influence an outcome. We all have or have had loved ones behind the walls, who knows if their outcomes would’ve been different if someone like us would’ve just shown up and gave our input.
Never forget that justice is what love looks like in public. Until Justice becomes real for all of us….BLESSINGS family.
