It is with profound sadness that we share the passing of our namesake and partner John C. Trimble—a gifted attorney, beloved mentor, and trusted advisor whose leadership shaped not just our firm, but the legal profession itself. For more than 40 years, John served our firm as a renowned mediator and legal strategist, earning national recognition for his expertise in complex litigation and his commitment to integrity, service, and tireless advocacy for the legal field.
His work earned him many accolades, including the Louis B. Potter Lifetime Professional Service Award (2021), the Indianapolis Bar Foundation’s prestigious Luminary Award (2023), and the Sagamore of the Wabash (2024). Such recognition reflects what those of us who knew him always saw: a man defined by wisdom, humility, and purpose.
Earlier this year, in recognition of his unparalleled contributions to our legacy and our future, we were proud to announce a rebrand of our firm to Lewis Wagner & Trimble. John’s name now stands alongside those of our founders, not only as a tribute to his legal excellence but as a reflection of his vision, values, and enduring impact.
While his professional accomplishments were many, John often said that his proudest achievements were outside the courtroom: his enduring marriage to his wife, Ann, and his role as a father to daughters Laura and Marie. We extend our heartfelt condolences to the Trimble family and all who were fortunate to know John. His absence is deeply felt, but his influence will continue to guide our firm and inspire our work.
