Maria Matters, Attorney at Law

Maria Matters, Attorney at Law Maria Matters Attorney at Law Please do not use FB to contact me about cases. Currently, she has her own law practice on the Eastside of Indianapolis.

Maria received her law degree in May of 1998 from Indiana University School of Law - Indianapolis, working full time and attending classes in the evenings. She received her undergraduate degree in Agricultural Communications from Purdue
University in 1983, which as she likes to say, means she talks to pigs. Prior to law school, she worked as

a civilian contracting officer for the Navy for 12 years and the Army for 2 years. In the latter part of her work with the Navy, she bought sonobuoys, the electronic surveillance devices made famous in Tom Clancy’s “Hunt for Red October”. Some of the areas Maria has experience in are prenuptial agreements, annulment, divorce, adoption, adult or minor guardianship, estate planning, probate, contract disputes, general litigation and small business advice. If she does not handle a particular type of case, she knows good attorneys to refer you to. Her philosophy is to tell the client her opinion and recommendation, not just what the client wants to hear. In addition to serving on the board of directors of the now defunct Beckmann Theatre, she is a member of Footlite Musicals, Player’s Club and the Indianapolis Bar Players (a group of singing lawyers). Maria served on the board of the Irvington Community Council from 1983 until 1994, and again from 1998 to 2003, twice as its president, and currently serves as its general counsel. She has volunteered with the Marion County Children's Guardian home in the past and currently volunteers as a guardian ad litem with Kids Voice. She is past president of the Hancock County Bar Association. She and her husband of 27 years live on a five acre farm, where they are (still) restoring a 100 year old farm house. The farm menagerie consists of 6 dogs, 7 cats, and 3 horses so far.

As I often say, a verbal agreement is not worth the paper it’s NOT written on. Get all promises and agreements in writing and signed.

We are thrilled to announce our partnership with Little Free Courthouse Libraries to help bring comfort and literacy to courthouses across Indiana.

Visiting a courthouse can be a stressful experience, especially for families and children. These libraries offer a "take a book, share a book" service designed to reduce anxiety and provide a welcome distraction during difficult times. Let's help Indiana reach its goal of a library in every county!

𝗛𝗼𝘄 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝗰𝗮𝗻 𝗵𝗲𝗹𝗽:
