The Batesville Memorial Public Library’s new Arts & Innovation Hub is set to become a vibrant center for creativity, learning, and community engagement. This dynamic addition will significantly expand the town’s capacity for arts and cultural programming, offering a large gathering area, flexible programming rooms, a makerspace, and a variety of meeting spaces designed to support both the arts and entrepreneurship.
From the very beginning, the library envisioned this project as a welcoming gateway to the community. Located on the town’s main thoroughfare, the building features a street-facing lounge with large windows that create a sense of openness and invitation. Designed with adaptability in mind, the Hub’s spaces can easily transform to meet a wide range of community needs. The architectural design draws inspiration from Batesville’s history of manufacturing. Elements such as the angled roof over the programming room refer to historic factory forms that bring natural light in evenly without overheating the space. In this same spirit, a custom front door is being built by a local wood carving shop, an appropriate measure in a City with an enduring history of wood-working trades.
The Arts & Innovation Hub will sit directly beside the existing library, separated by a thoughtfully designed outdoor plaza that will serve as an inviting communal space and a seamless link between the two buildings. Construction officially began in July, and we’re thrilled to see this exciting vision begin to take shape for the Batesville community!
