"Chinese New Year, also referred to as the Spring Festival, celebrates the beginning of a new year on the traditional Chinese calendar. The first day of Chinese New Year begins on the new moon that typically appears between January 21st and February 20th (which is why Chinese New Year is also called Lunar New Year) and celebrations continue over the next 15 days. It’s a major holiday in mainland China and just one of several Lunar New Years across Asia, including the Seollal in South Korea, the Losar of Tibet and Imlek in Indonesia. It is also celebrated worldwide in Asian diaspora—more than 20% of the world’s population, or almost 2 billion people, celebrate Lunar New Year."

"The Biden administration has turned its three migrant family detention centers into facilities for single adults, appearing to halt for now the practice of detaining parents with their children.

The move comes as the Department of Homeland Security increasingly uses alternatives to detention, such as ankle monitors and home visits, to track people released into the U.S. as their immigration cases move forward. The agency’s Alternatives to Detention programs are monitoring more than 145,000 people as of this month — an amount nearly doubled from two years ago — according to the Transactional Records Access Clearinghouse, a nonpartisan research center at Syracuse University."

The Biden administration has apparently halted for now the practice of holding migrant parents with their children at three ICE detention centers.

Border Report reports that migrants who seek to claim asylum have a greater chance of succeeding if they live in certain parts of the country, according to a new study. TRAC at Syracuse University analyzed six years’ worth of asylum decisions from immigration courts nationwide and found the asylum denial rate tended to be lower in immigration courts in New York, San Francisco, Baltimore, Chicago, and Arlington, VA.
