Before many malpractice cases can move forward in court, they must first go through a Medical Review Panel process involving independent healthcare providers reviewing medical records, evidence, and expert opinions.

Indiana law also limits the total recovery available in cases involving qualified healthcare providers to $1.8 million, regardless of the severity of the injury or the long-term impact on patients and families.

Indiana also has a unique Patient’s Compensation Fund system that differs from many other states.
