“It might seem like the bad news will always outweigh the good news. But that is only because the bad news comes suddenly, while the good news happens over time.”⁣

We all know about bad news. It comes quickly. It interrupts life. It demands attention. It brings fear, anxiety, frustration, and uncertainty. It takes center stage, or at least until more bad news comes along. Bad news is often overwhelming.⁣
⁣
But there is the other side of the coin.⁣
⁣
Good news comes differently. It comes gradually. Quietly. Bit by bit.⁣
⁣
It comes in the form of healing. More strength. A little more progress. A problem resolved. A routine restored. A return to normal.⁣
⁣
I have seen this play out in the type of work I do. And this is the reason I remain so optimistic about humanity.⁣
⁣
At first glance, personal injury work may seem discouraging. I often meet people shortly after something sudden, violent, and life-altering has happened. A collision. A serious injury. A hospital stay, or something worse.⁣
⁣
In those early moments, the bad news is obvious. It is immediate. It demands my full attention.⁣
⁣
Since the early 90s, I have also had a front-row seat to something else. I see people recover.⁣
⁣
They receive medical treatment, rehabilitation, encouragement, and support. Their strength begins to return. Their daily routine begins to come back. Their confidence improves. Their families adjust. Life starts moving forward again.⁣
⁣
Sometimes the recovery is nearly complete. Sometimes it is not. But even when a full recovery is not possible, there is still so much good that happens over time.⁣
⁣
There is the medical recovery. There is also the legal recovery, which I get to participate in.⁣
⁣
After 35 years, I now count on the good news. And it has always delivered.⁣
⁣
So when I sit across from a family after a bad accident or a serious injury, and things look bleak in that moment, it is never far from my mind that the story will look very different months from now.⁣
⁣
The feeling I have is something more than just being hopeful. It is more like a promise that I can count on.⁣
⁣
So today, if bad news arrives, as hard as it may be, let us never lose sight of the good news that will follow.
