At Horn Law, our focus is on motor vehicle injury cases where our client has suffered a more serious injury resulting in a significant loss of quality of life and the potential for longer-range consequences.

This was one of those cases. An older adult suffered a compression fracture in her lower back. Her medical recovery required her to spend time in a back brace. The injury also created concern about future mobility issues as she ages.

The $355,000 total settlement was justified given the medical evidence we presented regarding both the difficult medical recovery and the nature and extent of her injury.

Mother's Refuge is a shelter for unhoused pregnant teenage girls in Kansas City.

I was proud to serve on the Board of Directors of Mother's Refuge from 2003 to 2017. I've seen the organization grow in just about every way possible in serving young girls and their babies.

In the 25 years I've been involved with Mother's Refuge. I've seen what it means when a young woman finds help at just the right time. Your support helps provide a safe place for so many young mothers and a stronger start for their babies. Many are now alumni, building their lives beyond their time at the refuge.

When our client first came to us, she believed her head and neck injuries were relatively minor. She wasn’t even sure legal representation would be necessary.

But the medical evidence told a different story.

X-rays revealed a more significant neck injury, and what initially seemed minor developed into months of rehabilitation and concern about longer-range consequences.

Our job was to develop the medical and supporting evidence that showed the true nature and extent of the injury. As a result, what began as a seemingly minor injury claim ultimately resulted in an $87,000 settlement that represented a fair and full result.

One of the key factors in her medical recovery was that she had good medical treatment and rehabilitation, which significantly reduced the possibility of future problems.
