Did you receive a Tax Transcript that you DID NOT request.....

If you received a letter with an enclosed transcript that you “requested on a particular date”. Only … you did not request a transcript. I have a phone number you can call to inform IRS. Scammers will use this technique to get personal identifying information to file fraudulent tax returns and use SSN’s for other purposes. The number listed on the letters going out is 800-829-8374 which is an account related help line.

If this has happened to you, you need to call the ID Theft help line at: 1-800-908-4490 M-F 7am to 7pm.

Iowa Guidance on Non-Conformity
Because the Iowa Legislature has not chosen to conform Iowa tax law with current federal tax law, a number of federal tax breaks are unavailable on Iowa 2016 returns. Iowa law continues to point to the Internal Revenue Code as it existed on January 1, 2015. This has caused headaches for Iowa taxpayers, particularly with respect to the Section 179 deduction, which is $25,000 in Iowa, as opposed to $500,000. Last week, the Iowa Department of Revenue issued its latest informational guidance for navigating this new territory. Some additional guidance may be coming soon, particularly with respect to entity returns.

Subject: FW: FRAUD ADVISORY: Inspector General Warns Public About Calls from OIG "Imposters"

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
The Acting Inspector General of Social Security, Gale Stallworth Stone, is warning citizens about a nationwide telephone “imposter phishing” scheme. The Social Security Administration and its Office of the Inspector General have received several reports from citizens across the country about persons receiving phone calls from individuals posing as OIG investigators. The caller indicates an issue exists pertaining to the person’s Social Security account or Social Security number and directs the person call a non-SSA telephone number to address the issue.
This type of phishing scheme could lead to identity theft or Social Security benefit theft. Therefore, the Acting IG warns citizens to avoid providing personal information such as your SSN or bank account numbers to unknown persons over the phone or internet unless you are certain of who is receiving it.
See the full advisory at the OIG website. http://oig.ssa.gov/newsroom/news-releases/march2-advisory

The Iowa House and Senate both passed HF 2433 on March 15. This is full coupling with federal provisions for 2015 (with the exception of bonus depreciation). The bill will now move to the Governor.
This means that Iowa has FINALLY agreed to accept the Federal changes for tax returns currently being filed!
