As I begin selecting tax partners for the 2027 tax season, one lesson I've learned is that the energy and mindset of the people around me matter more than ever.

Building a successful tax office isn't just about who can prepare returns it's about who brings accountability, professionalism, and a willingness to grow. I've learned that not everyone is meant to be on the journey, and that's okay.

The people I choose to partner with have a direct impact on our clients' experience, our company culture, and our collective success. Because of that, I'm being intentional about who gets a seat at the table. I want partners who are committed to learning, serving clients with excellence, and contributing positively to the team.

Not everyone who wants access will receive it. In this next season, I'm choosing alignment over convenience, growth over comfort, and quality over quantity.

2027 isn't about building the biggest team it's about building the right team.👌

Did you know the IRS sends out over 170 million letters every single year? Whew. That’s basically one letter for every two households. And trust me… most people are NOT prepared when that envelope hits the mailbox. The people who ignore those notices? They usually end up paying penalties and interest they could’ve avoided. I don’t want that to be you. 👀

If an IRS letter pops up, here’s what you need to do:

1. OPEN IT ASAP. Don’t throw it on the counter for “later.” A lot of notices are simple math checks, but ignoring them can turn a tiny issue into a whole mess real quick.

2. Check the tax year. Look in the top right corner. If the year doesn’t match your most recent return, that’s your first sign something may need attention.

3. Find the “Reply By” date. You usually have about 30 days, but those days fly by fast.

If you’re meeting with your “business partner” 👀 or even a client this weekend for lunch, don’t forget to snap a photo of that receipt before tossing it away. Business meals connected to networking, client meetings, or discussing business may be tax deductible when properly documented.

Pro tip: Save the receipt, note who you met with, and what business was discussed. Small habits like this can save you BIG during tax season. 📚💰
