The Alabama State Bar is composed principally of practicing attorneys, judges, law teachers, and non-practicing lawyers who are business executives, government officials, court administrators and so forth. It represents practitioners in specialized areas of law, as well as affiliated, law-related organizations and groups with special interests or needs. The ASB has long served a dual role as an advocate for the profession and for the public. Often it is difficult to separate these two responsibilities, but during the last few decades with the growing complexity of society and our legal system, the ASB's public role has gained both emphasis and breadth. The State Bar serves as the voice of the legal practitioner in Alabama. It proposes model rules of professional responsibility (which govern the daily business and ethical practice of lawyers) for adoption by the Supreme Court.

We enjoyed honoring our 50-year members last week at the third annual Milestone Luncheon. Nearly 70 members who were admitted to the Alabama State Bar in 1976, along with their friends, family members, and colleagues, joined us at American Village for the special event.

We were honored to celebrate the fifty years of service these men and women have dedicated to the legal profession.

The Alabama State Bar’s new Stamped for Success CLE Tour begins Thursday, August 27, at The Hotel at Auburn University and Dixon Conference Center.

For just $25, members can earn up to five hours of CLE credit, including ethics credit, and enjoy lunch as part of the program. The day will feature Alabama State Bar President Jana Russell Garner, a Bench and Bar Luncheon, an AI panel, ethics programming, and an overview of Bar programs and member benefits.
