Honoring our other founder, Chadwick Wesley Ketchum.
Born December 18, 1911 in Wayne County, West Virginia, Chad Ketchum was a lifelong resident who dedicated his life to service, leadership, and the pursuit of justice. His journey began at Columbia University, where he attended from 1931–1934 and played as a two-way guard for the Lions varsity football team, contributing to their historic victory over Stanford in the 1934 Rose Bowl.
After completing his undergraduate studies, he returned to West Virginia and earned his J.D. from West Virginia University College of Law in 1937. He began his legal career as a U.S. Assistant Attorney in the Southern District of West Virginia, building a strong foundation in trial work and public service.
During World War II, Chad stepped away from his legal career to serve overseas in the military police from 1943–1945. After returning home from the war, Chad and Edward H. Greene founded their law firm with a shared passion for practicing law and serving the Huntington, Cabell, and Wayne County communities. Together, they built what would become Greene, Ketchum, Bailey & Tweel, a firm rooted in integrity, service, and a deep commitment to its clients.
Throughout his career, Chad was deeply involved in the legal community. He was a founding member of the West Virginia Trial Lawyers Association and served as its President from 1968–1969. His memberships also included the American Trial Lawyers Association, the Cabell County Bar Association, and the Federal Bar Association.
More than his titles, Chad was known for his unwavering commitment to advocating for consumer rights and standing up for those who needed it most, a mission he carried out until his passing in 1998.
His legacy lives on in the work we do every day.
