What was supposed to be a nice, easy 8-mile hike through Chantry Flats—complete with shade, waterfalls, pools, and a relaxing day outdoors—somehow turned into a brutal trek up Mt. Wilson in 99-degree heat and direct sunlight.

By the time we reached the waterfall, I was completely cooked. What was intended to be a leisurely day off became a survival mission. I ended up stopping multiple times and finally laying in the waterfall to cool down because I was on the verge of heat exhaustion. Not exactly the peaceful hiking day I had planned.

That said, I still wouldn't trade it. I got outside, challenged myself, saw some incredible scenery, and lived to tell the story. As miserable as parts of it were, a bad day hiking still beats just about any day working!
