Have You Been Selected for Jury Duty This Summer?

Serving on a jury is an important part of our justice system, and we want to help make the process as smooth as possible.

When you receive your jury summons, you will also receive a date range for your jury service and a list of scheduled jury trials. If you know you have a conflict with one or more of the listed dates, please contact the Dunn County Clerk of Courts Office as soon as possible:
- [email protected]
- 715-231-6620

Keep in mind that many jury trials are resolved before they reach the courtroom. If a case settles, you will not need to report for service.

If a jury trial does move forward and your service is needed, the Clerk of Courts Office will notify you by text message, email, and through the jury recording system with details about when and where to report.

For more information about jury service, visit:

Thank you for doing your part to support the judicial process in Dunn County.

Words of wisdom

“Lawyers provide too much information about things” that a jury doesn’t need to know, said St. Croix Circuit Court Judge R. Michael Waterman in “In the Minds of Jurors: Using Jury Feedback for Better Outcomes,” one of numerous sessions on the “judicial track” at the Annual Meeting & Conference.

“Ironically, the other thing that the jurors say, too, is that we don’t get enough information about things that were really important.” Judge Waterman advised lawyers to focus on the facts “that are always going to hit the bull’s eye.”

“The most clearly communicated theory to the jury, the most clearly communicated story wins most of the time,” elaborated Kevin M. Smith of the Janesville office of the Wisconsin State Public Defenders.

Expert witnesses can reach jurors through clarity on the stand. One expert, using his laptop, displayed diagnostics and manipulated them in an interactive description of medical facts that gave jurors a compelling show and tell, Waterman remembered.
