National Heat Awareness Day is a vital reminder that extreme heat is more than just an inconvenience—it’s the deadliest weather-related phenomenon in the U.S. As temperatures climb, our bodies work overtime to cool down, making hydration and shade essential tools for survival. Recognizing the early signs of heat exhaustion, like heavy sweating and a rapid pulse, can be the difference between a quick recovery and a medical emergency.
For my fellow Texans, this awareness is a year-round necessity. With the Lone Star State already seeing unseasonably warm starts to 2026 and a forecast favoring "warmer than normal" trends, the "Texas Heater" is in full effect. Whether you’re hitting the trails in Austin or working outdoors in Houston, remember that humidity can make a 95°F day feel like 105°F. Stay hydrated, look before you lock your vehicle, and check on neighbors who may not have reliable A/C. Stay cool, Texas! ☀️
