Hats off to WCBG partners Zach Bowman and Andrew Nelson who passed the certification exam administered by the Texas Board of Legal Specialization to become board certified.

Zach is now Board Certified in Insurance Law and Andrew is Board Certified in Civil Appellate Law.

Great news! WCBG name partners Tom Wright, Howard Close, Jessica Barger, and Eva Guzman have been named to the 2026 Lawdragon 500 Leading Lawyers in America Guide, which recognizes the most accomplished lawyers in the country.

Tom became a permanent member of Lawdragon Leading Lawyers after his induction into the Lawdragon Hall of Fame earlier this month.

We are thrilled to celebrate WCBG founding partner Tom Wright, who has been named to the 2026 Lawdragon Hall of Fame for his appellate practice.

Tom has been practicing law for more than 45 years, arguing cases in the Texas Supreme Court, the U.S. Courts of Appeals for the 5th and 9th Circuits and most of the 14 intermediate appellate courts in Texas.

Congratulations to WCBG partners Jessica Barger and Brian Cathey for their appellate victory in a long-running commercial dispute over indemnity for a lawsuit settlement.

In Industrial Specialists, LLC v. Blanchard Refining Co., LLC. et al., a trial court found our client owed indemnity and awarded the other side nearly $70 million in damages, attorneys’ fees, and interest.

The court of appeals reversed the lower court’s judgment, held no indemnity was owed because the parties’ contract did not satisfy Texas’ express negligence test, and rendered a take-nothing judgment in favor of our client. Well-done, Jessica and Brian!

We have exciting news to share! Wright Close Barger & Guzman has named Russ Hollenbeck the firm’s new managing partner. Russ, who is among the most respected appellate attorneys in Texas, will succeed Tom Wright, who has served as managing partner since the firm’s founding in 2002.

“I have watched Russ grow into this leadership role, making my decision to step aside to focus on my clients a very easy one,” said Tom Wright, who will resume the full-time practice of law.
