Last week I had to drive to Galveston for a status conference ⚖️
I live nowhere near Galveston, so it was about a 1 hour and 45 minute drive. But when it comes to my clients’ cases, I’m going.
A status conference is basically a check-in with the court. The judge makes sure the case is moving, deadlines are set, and everyone is on track for trial. We also entered a docket control order, which is the schedule that controls all the important deadlines leading up to trial.
We were given a trial date around Thanksgiving (which I did not love 😅), but it was the latest one available. Hopefully once the 2027 calendar opens, we can move it.
After that, I drove back and got right back to work.
A lot of people only see the settlements. They don’t see the drives, the hearings, the strategy, and the behind-the-scenes work that goes into it.
But this is what I do.
